so I finished up that paper and did what I always do when I have an hour or so to kill, I go to hulu and watch whatever looks interesting. today I was greeted with a "new" show called descendants of darkness.
I paused the episode the second I realized that this "new" show was actually yami no matsui (easy translation, it should have occurred to me I know), a show I had watched when it originally aired back in 2000. it took me 52 seconds to realize this was what I was watching based on animation alone. I never knew that it came over to the english shore. I thought it was just one of those old shows semi-decent and lost to the new age. apparently not seeing as how it was a CPM release. it's weird that I never knew though. I tended to stay in the anime loop more when I was younger.
still, less than a minute for recognition after 9 years? I think that's pretty good.
I haven't been posting as much as I should have, been busy for the most part. in 7 days I'll be mostly home free though if I work hard. we'll see.

I have a paper due in 12 hours that I haven't started. I'll get it done but it's effectively the last paper I have for the semester and it should explain the perilous nature of investing in Kazakhstan. I am debating with myself whether or not to make Borat a heavily cited cultural character... I think I could get away with it.

my initial reaction: eva used for dramatic effect since the homepage had eva on it for 10 years.
needless to say I. AM. PISSED. I understand having the site given to new owners and being shut down, but to do it without a single warning/notice just blows my mind. this isn't the first time something like this has happened though. I think those of us who are old enough to remember sailormoon.com know that well enough. unlike sailormoon.com I am shocked and appalled that this has happened. the site has been offering 10MEG email addresses for the last 10 years, it had a distinctive name and there are tons of oldbies I know of who also had accounts they still kept up with. it couldn't have taken a whole lot of revenue to keep it up and running for a least a goodbye week.
The 2nd email account I ever had has been wiped off of the face of the earth. so I'm feeling a bit like shinji, and I'm not sure if that's a bad thing. I have no backup of the old messages from my youth and I know I won't remember any of the addresses for friends from back in the day. I had my account since 2001. and it is all gone. one of the pillars of my internet experience has been torn down, and there is nay a whisper in remembrance. so here we are.

so, from the totally random department comes this.
in my college we have a game area in the commons, I say area because it's a combination: hallway of arcade cabinets, room of pool and pong tables, and multi-lane bowling alley. those of you who have attended college will probably know, if you play the floor, you find people tend to specialize in one game or another. some play pool, some DDR, some time crisis, but myself? I play pinball. for my entire life I have loved those spinning silver balls. pinball is an old school game, you get exactly what you put in, if you're willing to dedicate yourself you can get an exorbitant amount of playtime out of a very small investment, if not you can pop in a fiver and have some solid fun. as an aside I'd like to say that I think it's sad that the game area has lost so much over the years. when I first started attending there were probably 50 or so cabinets stretching across the hallway, now there are about 10 tops. and gripes aside I think that's a good example of why people just don't go to the commons anymore, it's effectively an empty room with tables and a few couches and very little else.

I like to say that the VAA is cliquey, but I got an email from Miz asking me and 20~ish people if we wanted to help out. I looked at the email list and instantly recognized 15 people I have had extensive fun with over the years. we're talking hour long conversations, full on reviews, live improv, and writing sessions. it makes me a bit sad when I look at this fantastic list again and notice I only really chat with one of them nowadays :(

birthday was cool, got a lot of nice things including a nice watch I've been looking at, another set of cans (YAY), tons of reading material and some CDs to boot along with an awesome birthday dinner of curry and A TEN POUND BIRTHDAY CAKE. WHAAAAAAAAAT.
yeah 10 pounds. thats 4.5KG it's huge and delicious and if my math is right, can feed 30 people pretty well.
so yes I will be eating cake for the next month.
thanks everyone for the birthday wishes, it means a lot too me :)

I've switched IDEs. noone I know would care but I've been progging in eclipse for a year or so now and I've finally dropped it in favor of netbeans. I hope I like it more and I'm pretty sure I do alreldy. we'll see. having everything I want on by default is a nice change.
I decided to help a friend of mine do a programming problem yesterday thinking that we would work for 3-4 hours. how this balooned into 10 hours nonstop I will never know. but the GUI looks nice at least...EOF handling in C++ is bitchy. I do not want to ever do that again. after finishing up at 1:30AM I fell asleep then proceeded to go back home today. I enter my room and find that my solar system diorama-thing was in pieces. WHAT HAPPENED? I've had this thing for probably 10 years now and for some reason it looked like it had been taken out of it's resting place and given a beatdown. a section of solid metal construction is now bent at an 80 degree angle, no fall did this. WHAT HAPPENED?
since I'm home I'll probably be seeing a movie again. this time I think I'm going to see julie and lulia. I hope the food is as sexy as people have said it is.
I've got a heavy-ish load of work for this weekend but I think I can manage to skweeze in a little fun wihout too much trouble.

I think I just screwed up a good thing by telling my instructor how easy her class is for me. yaaaaay domo-kun sized mouth in action again! is it really my fault though? I finished the class assignment 20 minutes before class ended when 80% of people had just started. and I took my time doing things SLLLLOOOOOWLY... (sigh)
anyway POI is kindof screwed up but I'm working on it. I'm avoiding dates again because I see myself having another crash for no good reason. other than that there isn't much really going on.

After a very engrossing sitdown viewing of 5cm/second I have to say that it was not as good as people led me to believe, but it is still very nice.

POI delayed for an indeterminate amount of time, there will be a release soon but I'm not giving a date this time. it comes out when it comes out. which should be really soon.
my apologies to those looking forward to the 9th as a release date but this might get fixed before then so keep up hope.

alright, this is a little bit wierd but I'm putting this out there anyway.
I had a coupon for breakfast at einstein bagels one free bagel poppers thing with purchase of a beverage. got coffee.
THING THINGS ARE INCREDIBLE XO SO GOOD
alright, we all know bagel bites are cool but old and lame right? right
these guys make the bagel bites then soak them in a honey, blueberry juice, grape juice sauce and package 20-25 of the things in a cup. try these things, they are incredible. eat some soon.
